List of famous Athletes who used steroids

 

Not just bodybuilders chose to use steroids to enhance their performances, but also quite a few athletes as well. If in the world of bodybuilding, steroids were a known habit, when it comes to sports, performance-enhancing drugs were always completely banned. Every athlete that decided to use steroids in order to become the best of the best, also decided to take on an incredible risk because if the use of steroids was discovered, the entire career of the athlete went to waste in a matter of minutes. Many famous athletes were banned from the sports they were performing and lost their medals and trophies once steroids were found in their system. Here is a list with some of these athletes.

This talented sprinter for Britain was tested positive for using an anabolic steroid, called THG (Tetrahydrogestrinone), receiving a ban from his activity as an athlete for 2 years. Starting with the middle of 2002, when he admitted that he used THG, Chambers lost all the medals he gained during the period in which he used the steroids. He was also made to pay back all the money he earned for the same period, so the punishment was rather harsh.

But all his achievements and performances started to count less when he was accused of using steroids. Although he didn’t admit it at first, he admitted his steroid use, but still refused to answer the questions that appeared after his confession. Eventually, in 2010, he seemed more open to talking about using steroids and stated that it would have been better without steroids and that he regrets making such a choice.

Four times he won Silver Slugger award and six times played in Major League Baseball All-Star Game. In 2005 he admitted using steroids during his playing career in his book Juiced, in which he claimed that the vast majority of MLB players use performance-enhancing drugs.

Alexander Leipold is a German former freestyle wrestler winning the German championships for eleven times, the European championships – for three times and the world championship in 1994. He is the first wrestler who was stripped of his Olympics gold medal after the 2000 Summer Olympics. In 2003 he suffered a severe heart attack during World championship in Tashkent and was paralyzed on one side. In 2009 he was qualified as a trainer in freestyle wrestling.

In 2013 Tyson Gay was tested positive for banned drugs and was suspended by USADA until June 2014. Also, he was stripped of his 2012 Summer Olympics silver medal.

Ivan Tskikhan is a Belarusian hammer thrower, two-time world champion, and Olympics silver and bronze medalist. In 2008 at the summer Olympics Tskikhan was tested positive for abnormal levels of testosterone. He was stripped of his medal, but due to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, he was awarded his bronze medal. In 2012 he was retested for doping and withdrawn from the 2012 Summer Olympics. Later he was disqualified by IOC. In 2016 Ivan Tskikhan returned to the sport and participated in summer Olympics and won the silver medal.

Sports competition is not only an admirable and spectacular event but can be rather brutal and unfair game where winners get all. And many famous athletes do not scruple to use steroids in order to obtain prevalence during the tournament. Evidence of steroids usage is followed by criticism, turned backs of thousands of fans, and stripped medals. Today hundreds of drugs are banned by the World Anti-doping Agency but every time Olympic Games, world championship or national games are shaken by a doping scandal.
